Men's Groups
Getting ready to launch a great part of the new CMN site that will help guys get their men's groups going, create and capture momentum... I think I've talked to at least 25 pastors in past two weeks whose opening lines are, "Well, we had a men's ministry going but, it sort of died out..." Then, comes the explanations - the guy leading it moved, we couldnt find a good time for everyone, ran out of pancake batter, etc...
There are some very key principles in making a men's movement work in the local church... and the first is the word I just used, 'men's movement' Eddy Leo from Jakarta was the first I heard who pointed out the difference... that a men's ministry is an event driven model, but a men's movement is a reproducible network of relationships. That's a huge difference - it doesn't mean we don't use events to spur the ministry to men, it just means the event must be pointed at a deeper focus.
I found a great album cover (Chicago Tribune had a 50 worst album covers chart, hilarious) that generally looks like most posters I find advertising men's stuff in churches where it doesn't work... in other words, strength attracts strength - strong men bring strong men - build your men to be strong, and more strong men will show up... don't let the dove guy lead music for your men!
Working on that site now...like building a house, takes longer than you think, and costs more than you can afford.
Keep it crankin'!
